I have just upgraded my serendipity version from 1.4.1 to 1.5.2. The Chinese character searching through the quick search text box is still not working. This is not a new problem, it has never worked.
After some goggling, I now understand that this is the caused by the MySQL full text search feature used by serendipity. MySQL full text search feature cannot work with CJK characters.
More details here.
Implemented htacess rewrite to enforce the word "www" in my web site URL. I did not pay much attention to this. I guess this was giving me some problems. For the pages maintaining sessions, khngai.com and www.khngai.com are having two different sessions.
My method of resolving this :
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.[^\.]+\.[^\.]+$ [NC] RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ([^\.]+\.[^\.]+)$ RewriteRule ^cgi-bin/php[3-9]?-cgi[^/]*/(.*)$ http://www.%1/$1 [L,R=301]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.[^\.]+\.[^\.]+$ [NC] RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ([^\.]+\.[^\.]+)$ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.%1/$1 [L,R=301]
The first 3 lines are very specific to my web hosting company.
My web hosting company also complained that 2 of my scripts are loading its server. One of the scripts is to generate PNG image dynamically. I have to stop using that script and pre-generate all the images. I am not entirely happy, but I am glad that they bother to find out what are loading its server.

I found reCaptcha by accident. The best thing is, it is free. My "Contact Me" page has been crippled for quite a while. I was forced to reject all messages with URLs because there are so many spammer out there. I had enough from them. I believe they were using some programs to post pornographic links everywhere.
My problem is now resolved with reCaptcha.

Has been wiing for a week. I was not playing any Wii game, but installing Homebrew Channel, USB Loader GX. I can now place all my games into a portable hard drive. This got rid of the intermittent DVD reading problem.
In the process, the System Menu has been updated to version 4.2U.
And, I have installed FCE Ultra GX to play the nostalgic Nintendo games, such as Bomberman, Battle City and so on.

I have this strange problem that when trying to configure compilation for wxWidget, the configure script would hang randomly at different places. The problem only happens on one of my 3 computers. After some searching, it is found to be caused by the Logitech Monitor Process, lvprcsrv.exe. The PC with the Logitech web cam attached is the one having the problem. After killing the process, the configure script completed successfully.
Google says "disabling this process has no affect on the webcam functionality other than not being able to use the Video Effects feature".
I am still puzzled why MingW has anything to do with webcam though.

By following the instructions provided at ngine, I have successfully installed Windows XP on my 8G SanDisk Cruzer. Only my Dell D620 can be used to install that. Both my desktops do not allow me to do that. During the partition selection, the desktops say "Your computers startup program cannot gain access to the disk containing the partition ..."
Unfortunately, the XP on the SanDisk Cruzer cannot be run on my EeePC. It is a BSOD.

I have spent days figuring this out.
- Install AppleApplicationSupport.msi (must be installed before AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi)
- Install AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (do not change the installation directory)
- Copy QTCF.dll, QuickTime.qts, QuickTimeVR.qtx (from QuickTime) to C:\Windows\System32\
Some people have reported, iPhone USB tethering works after AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi installation alone (without AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi). Unfortunately, this is not my experience.
Both AppleApplicationSupport.msi and AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi can be extracted from iTunesSetup.exe by using 7-zip.
AppleApplicationSupport.msi is to install some files in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support" and also to install Visual C Run Time Library (This is to say iTunes is developed using Visual C - my guess). In actual fact, only the Visual C Run Time Library is important. For my version of iTunes, it uses Visual C Run Time Library version 8.0.50727.4053. The Run Time Library will be installed into "C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.4053_x-ww_e6967989". Without this library, USB tethering fails to work although iPhone can be detected as "Apple Mobile Device Ethernet", the 2 monitor icon at the system tray just shows "Network cable unplugged".
As stated earlier, install AppleApplicationSupport.msi and then AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi. Reversing the sequence does not work.

My Asus netbook's C drive is really running out of space. I have to move "Documents and Settings" from C Drive to D Drive. This is the directory where all applications are using to store application settings. I have no control on how big the usage can be. Thus, moving it to D drive where I have more space is a good idea.
Currently, my netbook has only one user who is a "Computer Administrator", I created another user also with "Computer Administrator" privileges. The ProfileImagePath of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList of the new user is changed to D drive.

When sending emails from Gmail through any alternate email address (xyz@abc.com) other than the default email address (lmn@gmail.com), the annoying "on behalf of" words is added next to the email address.
The way to get rid of that is to use a SMTP server from other webhosting companies (settings -> Account and Import -> Send mail as -> edit info). Unfortunately, Gmail allows only SMTP server with TLS support. VPS packages from IxWebhosting support this feature.

I received my first check from Google Inc. It is SGD 181.20 for 4 months of advertisement. Well, the sum is small but encouraging.

After the sumptuous lunch at Shin Yuu Japanese Restaurant, I went to Sim Lim Square to buy a XFX GeForce 9400 GT 512 MB DDR2 graphic card for my PC. The existing one was cranky for the past week. The display just freezes without any reason. I know that the PC is still running correctly since it can shut down properly when the power on button is pressed.
I am quite happy with the card, it scales the display with the right aspect ratio when playing games. This is a nVidia based graphic card with 2 years warranty. Hopefully it can survive longer.

I was helping HS to figure out how to add a domain to his godaddy hosting account. The DNS settings for individual domain is hidden very deep inside its fancy GUI. Amazing ! Who will ever figure out the user needs to press the "Return to List" button under "Total DNS Control" to configure CNAME and MX records for different domain ?

I borrowed this device (Inphic i8) from a friend. I would say this is the media player that suited my needs the best.
I am looking for a portable player that I can bring along during overseas vacations with my kids. Inphic i8 has both component and AV (a 3.5mm jack with Video output, left audio, right audio) output. The defects that I have discovered so far
- While playing a DIVX file, it will always display the first subtitle. This subtitle cannot be turned off. It does not allow user to switch other subtitle even there are other subtitle languages embedded in the DIVX file
- While playing a VOB file, the subtitle is not displayed correctly.
It does not support HDMI output which is not my concern at all.

My Seagate hard disk was delivered yesterday. My PC is now up and running again. This is my most problematic PC. Almost every changeable part has been replaced, the RAM, the power supply, the CPU fan, the hard disk.
Hopefully it will not break down so soon this time.
