I heard about PPStream quite some time ago. The name usually appear when I try to google for live streaming of badminton games. However, I have never tried it. Only when I see Mei Fan using it to watch Movies over internet, I suddenly realize that what Video On Demand is.
Morally, PPStream is broadcasting movies illegally. It is a software that encourages piracy. But I seriously think PPStream opens up a whole new perspective on Video On Demand. And shows the world how movies should be distributed other than going to the cinemas.

I was panicky just now when I saw my web site was showing something unfamiliar. I was thinking my domain name has been hijacked by domain pirate. Luckily, it is simply because of domain name expiration. It was re-activated after half an hour.
The email accounts took a few more hours before they are fully functional again.

I am sorry to say Winapi is really ugly. I guess no one can run away from winapi if a decent Windows application is to be written. I have not used Visual Basic at all. But there are a lot of Visual Basic resources in the internet. It supposed to be much more intuitive than C or C++. However, when dealing with the bsiac of Windows, Winapi seems to be the only solution.
After a few days of struggling, I think I have solved most of the problems that I need.

I always wanted to write some programs using C++. There were some obstacles. Visual C++ is not free. I probably can say it is not a problem for me now. I am using MingW gcc / wxWidgets / Bloodshed Dev Cpp. It works for me quite well.
Writing C++ program is still very painful compare to some many other alternatives today. I am very used to perl scripts and even autohokey scripts works very well. Autohotkey scripts can even be compiled into exe, even though I am suspecting it is not really compiling scripts into exe, rather it is packaging the autohotkey interpreter into the binary.
I am thinking of writing a universal wrapper for portable apps. The process of creating portableapps is still cumblesome.

The laptop fan has been making strange squirking sound. The Dell repairman came down to replace it. No sound now.

I have written similar program years ago which play beeping tones from PC speaker. Since sound cards are ubiquitous, I thought I will never use it again. Apparently, I need this program again to play some silly tones after a PC is booted up succesfully. This is because the file server PC that I have configured has no sound card. And it is a slow PC, I need to know exactly when the PC is fully booted up and I can start accessing the PC. I put this program in the Start Up folder.
The source file is beep.c

My graphic card has broken down, so visited Sim Lim Square with colleagues this afternoon. I bought a MSI ATI Radeon R4650 512 MB DDR2 and a Scythe Shuriken CPU cooler.
I am extremely pleased with the cooler. It is super quiet. It is compact, the height is only 64 mm. The base is small enough that it does not touch any of the components on my motherboard unlike my previous cooler.
With the "new" & quiet PC, it feel really good.

My the other piece of 1G RAM went down. I am really suspecting something wrong with my PC. But no sure which part of it. The RAM is replaced at Convergence System at OG Plaza, 11th floor.
I have bought a Maxtor 320GB portable hard drisk for Mei Fan as her birthday present.

My ERC Mail Redirect poped up with strange messages. After weeks of debugging, I believe it is due to the freepops yahoo mail access. I think the latest yahoo.lua should solve the problem.
While debugging, I had tried popmonger and Helexis's Mail Redirect. With Popmonger, I am having the problem that HTML messages are not displayed correctly on Gmail after redirection. Helexis is the best solution so far.

A moron posted some porn URLs into my guestbook. Spent some time to clean that up and implemented a filter in my guestbook.

I have gotten a SB5101 to replace my old cable modem SB3100. No installation is required, except that I need to call up starhub to enable the device by given them the MAC address of the SB5101.

I finally decided to have my own EeePC 901 yesterday. It is completely setup now. I seriously felt that it worth the SGD 798 spent on it.

With the findings that I have about è¿…é›·. I am wondering if a joker with the software running on his laptop goes online in a MacDonald outlet, will he be hogging the entire bandwidth ?
Similarly, if there are a few users inside a same HDB block, will these few jokers jam the internet ?
I remembered Starhub limits the bit torrent uploading speed. Is it because of this reason ?
But the fact that I still can use è¿…é›· to its fullest. I do not think Starhub is currently blocking è¿…é›·. They should do something about it.
There is a very good wiki here.

I spent the whole day looking for a software to limit è¿…é›·'s Bandwidth. I tried Netlimiter Pro 2. It does exactly what I need. Unfortunately, it crashed consistently after running for a while, It is a brutal BSOD.
I switched to Bandwidth Manager from Softperfect. It actually works for me. Unfortunately, it does not limit the bandwidth by application.
I have created 2 rules. The 1st and 2nd rules are to limit the incoming and outgoing traffic.
Since I need to access this PC remotely through RealVNC and FTP, I checked the "ignore LAN Traffic" options in File-> Settings -> LAN tab. This way, all local traffic will not be limited.
However, even with this settings, whenever Xunlei is running, other applications such as IE, utorrent will not be able to access internet. However, this solution still works for me, because my PC is dedicated to run è¿…é›· and utorrent (not at the same time).
I would call this software unscrupulous, unethical.
Firstly, the user interface is only available in Simplified Chinese (GBK). The characters appear as garbage on my English version of windows XP. I do not understand why people cannot design their software using Unicode.
Secondly, the entire application is cluttered with advertisements.
Third, whenever it is running. it is hogging my entire broadband bandwidth. Other PCs, laptops connected to my home router will have intermittent internet connection. This has really pissed me off. I went googling over internet. What I have discovered is, this software is probably the fastest download client available now. The way it achieves such a high speed is by forcing other client PCs to download files that are requested by these PCs. In other words, if PC A is downloading file X, it forces other PCs B, C, D to download file X (or part of it) even though PCs B, C, D have never requested file X. PC B, C and D are then made to upload file X to PC A.
Even on the same machine that è¿…é›· is running, IE & utorrent are entirely paralyzed. They have virtually no acces to the internet.
