I am migrating my web server from a PHP 4 server to PHP 5 server. It is so tedious and troublesome. I need to transfer all files, databases manually. Luckily the WebShell (from psoft) tool provided by the hosting company is very powerful. I can zip my files at the remote site before downloading them.
The second challenge is to backup and restore MySQL databases. PhpMyAdmin is good for backing up the databases. Unfortunately when restoring the databases, the maximum file size that can be uploaded is only 2M. So, I compile my own cygwin version of mysql client to restore back the databases into a new server.
mysql -C --default-character-set=utf8 -h mysql402.xxx.com -u username -ppassword database_name < sql.txt
Then I ran into problems with drupal. The version that I had was version 4.6.5. It shows something like
{head} {styles} {BLOCK.header.logo} {BLOCK.header.site_name} {secondary_links}
{primary_links}
{BLOCK.header.blocks}
After googling for a while, I realized that I need to upgrade Drupal to version 4.7.11.
One good feature on this new web server I found is that the symbolic link created by the web server is no longer has httpd as the owner, the owner is now me.
PHP is now installed as PHP CGI, not an apache module.
